Shepherds and wild flowers off-road tour
In the Carpathian Mountains it is still a summer tradition to set up estensas. During our off-road tour we will visit one of these places and get to know the everyday life of shepherds. We will then drive along roads far from the noise of the cities, following forests, wild flowers and lush springs.

Mineral water springs and hidden villages off-road tour
This region is rich in deep springs, wild flowers and herbs. On this tour we’ll show you these, as well as villages hidden in green valleys, visited by the King of England himself. In Zalánpatak we visit his guest house and a small museum that takes us back to the Szekler villages of the old days. We will also experience the special properties of a mofetta.

Road of volcanoes off-road tour
In Szeklerland we found several springs of mineral water, which are due to post-volcanic activities. On this off-road tour, we will also look for traces of the former volcanoes, such as mineral water pools in the depths of the forest, springs with a variety of flavours and mofetta. We will drive around the southernmost volcanic cone of the Harghita Mountains, from where we will also have a fabulous view of the volcanic cone that hides the Saint Anna Lake. But we also visit a small village museum and the house of the English king in Zalánpatak, and after a delicious picnic we taste fresh cheese and orda at the shepherds place.

– If you book a car, 2 people can travel in the car plus driver and guide. For larger groups, if more cars are needed, the second (and additional) cars can accommodate 3 people and the driver.

What is the secret of the 15 generations of the Sütő family in Vargyas? The answer comes from woodcarver and furniture maker István Sütő. In their family home, we visit a small museum of painted furniture and carved objects, and in the workshop we discover the process of making furniture and the tools used to make it.
Did you know that traditional looms can be used to make all kinds of fabrics, from simple bed linen to rugs and the most complex fabrics for folk costumes? Learn the details in the only active weaving workshop in the Barót Basin. If you feel like it, you can even try it!
In Kisbacon, there is a unique place where a nearly 200-year-old water mill still grinds to this day. The mill building is a real curiosity, where you can watch how grain is turned into flour using the power of water.
The Unitarian fortified church in Nagyajta reminds the visitor of the peasant forths of the Saxon land. The fortifications are home to a rich exhibition of local history and ethnography.The Gothic church, hidden within the castle walls, also has a fresco depicting the legend of St. László.
The Kálnoky Castle in Miklósvár, once again in the care of the Count Kálnoky family, is one of the most beautiful museums in the region, with a rich collection of furniture, weapons and oriental carpets.

Hiking in the Vargyas Gorge
Legendary caves and rock shelters tell the story of Székely ingenuity and the Tatar invasion hundreds of years ago. A total of 122 caves, 19 bat species and many protected plants and animals can be found in this rocky forest environment. If you visit, you’ll be convinced that the Vargyas Gorge is one of the most unique places in Szeklerland.
Körtövés guest village is a holiday village of farmhouses, a gathering place of old times and traditions, with no electricity, telephone signal or internet access. Everything you find here is largely local, handcrafted products. While enjoying a coffee or a drink, you can also wander around this charming place.

Bear watching in the valley of the Kormos river
We know that bears could be seen in the outskirts of villages in Szeklerland nowadays. But an afternoon spent in a bear reserve is a completely different experience. You can observe the often playful bears up close. You can learn a lot of interesting facts about the forest dwellers from the local ranger and see other wildlife on the way to the observation point.

Lake St Anne and surroundings
If you’re looking for traces of volcanoes in Szeklerland, why not start inside a crater. Lake St Anne was formed in the crater of a relatively young volcano. Surrounded by fragrant pine forest, gleaming birch trees and lush blueberry bushes, you can already see the hero of the lake’s legend, Anne. You can also visit another crater in the neighbourhood of St. Anne’s Lake. This is where the Mohos peat bog was formed, which can be reached by a well-maintained path. Among the dwarf pine trees, peat rosemary and blueberry bushes, you can see rarities such as carnivorous dew-grass, legless lizard and moor-grass. The tundra-like marsh is a truly enchanting place.
Near Bálványosfürdő, in a tiny valley, you will find the Apor girls’ bath. In this small area, eight different mineral springs break the surface, each with a different composition of water. They can be described as a world rarity.

Fabulous Viscri
The expertly restored Saxon porticos, the fortified church rising above the village and the surrounding magnificent landscape have made this one of the most famous Saxon settlements in Transylvania. The tower of the World Heritage church offers a fabulous view of the whole village.
As in the Szekler landscapes, King Charles favoured this region. So much so that he bought a private estate in Viscri. Here you can visit an exhibition of the activities of the foundations he set up in Transylvania.
Heading towards Rupea, you can see a medieval castle built on a rocky hill in the distance. Climbing up the hill, you can admire not only the old castle walls and bastions, but also the stunning panorama of the Carpathian Mountains.
